Medical imaging specialist Barco (Kortrijk, Belgium) reported that the company closed the divestment operation of its Advanced Visualization (AVIS) activities to Toshiba Medical Systems Corp. (Tokyo, Japan).

Details of the impact of the operation will be given with the announcement of Barco's first quarter 2009 financial results on April 22, 2009. Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, the AVIS group is specialized in three-dimensional (3D) clinical software solutions, marketed worldwide under the product names Voxar 3D and Voxar 3D Enterprise. Toshiba now owns all AVIS assets, including its full product portfolio.

The decision to sell its AVIS activities arises from the strategic refocusing of Barco's medical imaging division, concentrating all resources on the development and marketing of medical display systems for diagnostic, surgical, and clinical imaging along with systems for medical original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide.

Toshiba Medical Systems, a subsidiary of Toshiba Corp., is a leading global provider of diagnostic imaging systems and comprehensive medical solutions, with a product range that extends across computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, X-ray, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems to clinical laboratory and healthcare information technology (IT) systems.

Barco, a global technology company, designs and develops visualization products for a variety of selected professional markets.
