A Swedish information technology (IT) and medical technology company has signed an agreement with Sergas, a healthcare service provider of Galicia (a region in northwest Spain), to install picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) at five of the region's public hospitals.

The order comprises Sectra (Linkoping, Sweden) PACS products and services and Sectra's productivity suit for radiology departments. Sectra PACS will serve in a completely integrated radiology solution incorporated into the hospitals' existing IT infrastructure. Digitizing imaging operations will increase workflow efficiencies and provide radiologists with instant access to images and information regardless of location. The hospitals will be able to exchange data and share workload in a completely secure way without compromising patient integrity.

"We were looking for a solution to view images and information across hospital boundaries, which enables us to utilize our resources in the most efficient manner,” commented Benigno Rosón Calvo, IT manager at Sergas. "Sectra has proven very flexible and attentive to our needs, and the effectiveness of radiological performance will increase significantly since all relevant imaging and findings data is available whenever and wherever they are needed.”

"The agreement with Sergas is a strategic step into the public healthcare market in Spain. It confirms our ability to provide first-class products and service and support,” stated Carlos Cardoso, president of Sectra Iberia.
